From Criminal Defence Attorney to Coaching With Trust at the Core

When lawyer-turned-coach Anne Roche set out to build a business rooted in trust, connection, and purpose, she didn’t expect that her search for balance would lead her to transform not just her career, but how she would run her entire business. In this week’s blog, we are spotlighting Anne, and how she uses Daylite to stay deeply connected with her clients while keeping her growing practice organized and personal.

What does it take to build a business rooted in trust, connection, and purpose? For Anne Roche, the answer comes from an unexpected journey—one that began in law.

“I used to be a lawyer. I loved, loved, loved my work as a defence attorney,” Anne shared. “But over time, the work became more administrative and less client-facing. My parents were aging, my kids were teenagers, and suddenly everything just felt…really hard.”

That crossroads moment sparked a shift. Anne didn’t want less in her life, she wanted her life to feel like more. More joy. More connection. More purpose. And when she aligned her choices with that desire, everything changed.

Anne discovered coaching, a profession she hadn’t even known existed. What began as personal exploration quickly became a calling: helping others transform their lives without “blowing them up.” Within a year, she transitioned from practicing law to building a coaching practice.

But Anne’s story isn’t just about a career change. It’s about values.

“Building a business based on the values I hold very dearly. Trust was important. It wasn’t about trying to reach as many people as possible. It was about finding the people who were ready, the people who were a ‘hell yes.’ And that takes time.”

Anne’s coaching business has grown intentionally, one relationship at a time. She says “no” more often than “yes,” a decision that, while unconventional, has built deep trust and fueled word-of-mouth growth.

Her background as an attorney gave her another gift: a non-judgmental perspective.

“Given my past experience as a lawyer, there is nothing anyone says to me that can throw me. I’ve seen and heard it all. And that helps. I just have no judgment around it.”

In lieu of judgement, Anne leans into curiosity—a practice so deeply important to her that she developed her own system at the start of her career to track how often she asked coaching questions, sparking meaningful conversations.

“I wanted to feel deeply connected, so I asked people questions. And it was amazing how many people responded, and how many were curious back.”

That intentional curiosity not only grew her business but also made her feel energized rather than drained.

The Challenge of Growth

As Anne’s practice expanded—one-on-one coaching, workshops, organizational work, writing a book, and publishing weekly on Substack—she found herself overwhelmed by the administrative load.

“I really hate administrative work,” she admits. “Keeping track of my growing client list, projects, workshops, follow-ups—I just needed a database so nothing was slipping through the cracks.”

Enter Daylite

That’s where Daylite came in. Anne discovered the platform almost by accident while searching for a client management solution built for Apple products. What stood out wasn’t just the software, but the human touch.

“I got so much attention from Daylite before I even signed up as a client. That’s how I work too. If you’re a hell yes, I’m a hell yes. And that’s what I really appreciated about the approach from Daylite.”

Now, Daylite acts as her second brain. She uses pipelines to track client journeys, a database to organize conversations, and integrated email to keep communications personal without adding administrative strain.

One moment, in particular, showed Anne the power of this system. A former client reached out after four years to say their work together had been “transformational.” Because all of their history was saved in Daylite, Anne could easily revisit their past sessions and refamiliarize herself with the work they’d done together.

“He was so touched that I remembered. It brought him back to what was working for him, and gave him new energy. That kind of recall—Daylite makes it easier.”

For Anne, the real value of Daylite isn’t automation for its own sake. It’s about freeing her from admin tasks while keeping her coaching deeply personal.

“I don’t want my clients to ever feel like a number. With Daylite, I can make my systems more efficient, but still show up personally for every client.”

Daylite’s balance of efficiency without losing the human connection mirrors the very values on which Anne has built her business.

In Anne’s words:

“When you’re coaching with me, you’re getting me. That’s what clients are trusting. Daylite allows me to keep that promise.”

Anne’s story is a reminder that success isn’t necessarily about scaling fast or saying yes to everything. It’s about knowing your values, building trust intentionally, and using the right tools to help you stay focused on what matters most: people.
